Not every assignment is a conference. Much of what we do is quieter: a parent-teacher meeting, a consultation with a family lawyer, a visit to a social services office, a bank appointment, a meeting with an adoption agency, a funeral home, a wedding where half the guests speak only Russian. These are the moments when a family most needs to be understood exactly, and least wants a stranger in the room. Our interpreters are chosen for this work as much for their tact as for their language.
We interpret in person wherever you are in the United States, by telephone when the matter is a call to an office or a relative, and by video when an appointment is held online. Everything said in front of our interpreter stays there; confidentiality is a professional obligation for every linguist in our network, not a courtesy. Where the matter is sensitive, we will tell you honestly whether we think a man or a woman, an older or a younger interpreter, would make the conversation easier, and we will assign accordingly.
We also translate and certify the personal documents that family matters tend to require: birth, marriage and death certificates, diplomas, medical records, letters and affidavits. In-person interpretation is billed by the hour with a four-hour minimum; telephone interpretation is $2.39 per minute in twenty-minute increments, which for a single call is often the sensible choice. Call or write and tell us what you need, and we will help you arrange it.
