An immigration interview is a short meeting with long consequences, and the officer across the desk will judge your answers only through the interpreter's words. USCIS allows you to bring your own interpreter to most interviews, and it is worth bringing a professional. A relative who speaks both languages tends to explain, soften or add to what you said, and officers notice; a professional renders exactly what was asked and exactly what you answered, nothing more, which is what the interview requires.
Our interpreters have accompanied applicants to adjustment-of-status, naturalization, asylum, marriage-based and I-751 interviews at USCIS field offices across the country, and are familiar with the forms, the oath, the interpreter's declaration and the way an officer phrases questions. The rate is a flat $295 for one person interviewed, or $435 for two people interviewed together, which covers the waiting time that every USCIS appointment involves. Where the office allows it, we can also interpret by telephone.
Alongside the interview itself we provide certified translations of the documents that go into the file: birth and marriage certificates, divorce decrees, diplomas, police certificates and the like, with the translator's certification that USCIS requires, at $50 per document of up to two pages. If you are preparing a case, send us the interview notice and the list of documents, and we will confirm the interpreter and quote the translations the same day.
